Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with TVFCU

Each year, from September 15 to October 15, people across various regions take time to recognize and celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. This month recognizes the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx individuals. At TVFCU, we proudly celebrate this community and reflect on how we can support Hispanic culture today and in the future.

National Hispanic Heritage Month was first established in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week, under President Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1988 the week was extended to a full month by President Ronald Reagan.

The month begins on September 15, a significant date as it marks the anniversary of independence for several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Following closely behind, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September 18.

Hispanic Americans have made lasting contributions to the United States, shaping education, businesses, and much more. Hispanic Heritage Month offers an opportunity to honor those contributions, while also celebrating the culture that Hispanic communities bring to our local and national identities.

As part of our mission to serve all of our members, TVFCU is committed to fostering inclusivity and empowering every individual and family to succeed. We believe that celebrating and uplifting the Hispanic community helps make our community more connected. Whether it’s through financial support, community involvement, or cultural appreciation, we recognize the importance of supporting all members of our community, including those within the Hispanic and Latinx population.

At TVFCU, one of the ways we support the Hispanic community is by offering resources that cater to their specific financial needs. Some of our programs offer Hispanic families the knowledge and tools they need to reach their financial goals. By offering services that address the unique challenges faced by the Hispanic community, we strive to foster a more inclusive and equitable financial environment.

One way we support the Hispanic community is by offering resources that cater to their specific financial needs. For instance, our ITIN loan program provides opportunities for individuals without Social Security numbers to access home loans, helping to make homeownership more attainable for everyone.

We also host homebuyer seminars specifically designed for Spanish-speaking first-time homebuyers, which provides tips for home buying in both English and Spanish. Additionally, we are proud to have multi-lingual staff across all our member service areas, allowing us to better serve our Hispanic members by ensuring they feel understood and supported.

This month reminds us that celebrating diversity strengthens our entire community, and TVFCU is proud to stand by the Hispanic community as both a partner and advocate.

Cada año, del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre, personas en diversas regiones se toman el tiempo para reconocer y celebrar el Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana. Este mes reconoce las historias, culturas y contribuciones de los individuos hispanos y latinos. En TVFCU, celebramos con orgullo a esta comunidad y reflexionamos sobre cómo podemos apoyar la cultura hispana hoy y en el futuro.

El Mes Nacional de la Herencia Hispana se estableció por primera vez en 1968 como la Semana de la Herencia Hispana, bajo el mandato del presidente Lyndon B. Johnson. En 1988, el presidente Ronald Reagan amplió la semana a un mes completo.

El mes comienza el 15 de septiembre, una fecha significativa ya que marca el aniversario de la independencia de varios países de América Latina, incluidos Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras y Nicaragua. Por ejemplo, nuestro programa de préstamos con ITIN (número de Identificación Personal del Contribuyente) brinda oportunidades para que las personas sin número de Seguro Social accedan a préstamos para la compra de vivienda, ayudando a que la propiedad de vivienda sea más accesible para todos.

También organizamos seminarios para compradores de vivienda dirigidos específicamente a compradores primerizos que son español hablantes, los cuales ofrecen consejos sobre la compra de viviendas en inglés y en español. Además, nos enorgullece contar con personal multilingüe en todas nuestras áreas de servicio al cliente, lo que nos permite atender mejor a nuestros miembros hispanos y asegurarnos de que se sientan comprendidos y apoyados.

Este mes nos recuerda que celebrar la diversidad fortalece a toda nuestra comunidad, y en TVFCU nos enorgullece apoyar a la comunidad hispana como socios y defensores.
