First Quarter 2026 Currents

Hannah Gueck

Celebrating 90 Years

It’s official: we have been serving the Tennessee Valley region for 90 years!

On June 5, 1936, 57 TVA employees pooled their combined resources of $500 to officially charter the credit union, and the rest is history. Over our 90-year journey, we have done some incredible things in our community all while keeping the credit union mission of people helping people at the forefront.

Starting as the Chattanooga TVA Employees Federal Credit Union in 1936, we expanded our membership in 1983 which led to changing our name in 1994 to Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union. In 2004, TVFCU received a community charter, meaning our membership opportunities opened to the 13 counties that are included in the Southeast Tennessee Economic Development District: Tennessee – Hamilton, Bradley, Polk, McMinn, Rhea, Bledsoe, Sequatchie, Meigs, Grundy, and Marion, and Georgia – Walker, Catoosa, and Dade.

In 2022, our service area expanded further with the addition of four North Georgia counties: Chattooga, Gordon, Murray, and Whitfield. In 2025, we opened four branches across Tennessee and North Georgia, saved members $5.7 million in NSF and Courtesy Pay fees, and paid over $700,000 in home appraisal fees.

Today, Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union proudly serves more than 174,000 members across 29 branch locations. We offer a wide range of cost-saving financial services through multiple delivery channels that are all designed to meet the diverse and evolving needs of our growing membership.

Election Procedures

The election procedure will be the same as in the past several years. According to TVFCU’s bylaws, if there is only one nominee for each available position, then a mail ballot will not be conducted, and the nominees listed here will automatically be elected to fill the vacancies. We will not accept nominees from the floor at the Annual Meeting. The Credit Union does, however, allow for other nominations. In accordance with our bylaws, any member in good standing may be nominated for the Board of Directors by petition. Regulations require the petition to be signed by 1% of the membership, up to a maximum of 500 members. Joint owners of accounts cannot be considered in the 1% total. Each member may sign a nominee’s petition once. All signatures must be from members 16 years of age or older and are subject to verification by TVFCU’s Supervisory Committee. Petitions are available at TVFCU’s Executive Office at 535 Chestnut Street in Chattanooga. They must be returned to the Supervisory Committee by close of business (4:45 p.m. EST) on Tuesday, Feb. 10, in order for the nominee to be placed on the ballot. If a nomination by petition is received, we will hold an election, and the results will be announced at our 90th Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 16.
