Making Construction History: TVFCU and Branch Technology

Before Branch Technology became a nationally recognized construction technology company, TVFCU was proud to support its vision.

At TVFCU, supporting local businesses goes beyond financial services. Sometimes, it means taking a chance on a new idea. The TVFCU Southside Branch is one example, where an early partnership with Chattanooga-based Branch Technology gave the company an opportunity to put its new approach to construction on display, creating the world’s first 3D-printed building façade.

When TVFCU began planning the Southside Branch, the goal was more than building a new location. It was an opportunity to partner with a Chattanooga company that was developing a new approach to commercial construction.

Founded in Chattanooga in 2014, Branch Technology set out to change the way buildings are built. Its patented Cellular Fabrication, or C-Fab, process creates lightweight, freeform architectural designs while using significantly less material than traditional construction methods. By using only the material needed for each project, the process also reduces construction waste.

TVFCU put that technology to work at the Southside Branch, giving Branch Technology a highly visible opportunity to demonstrate what it could do.

The result was the world’s first 3D-printed building façade. The panels are lighter than traditional concrete, water-repellent and self-cleaning.

From the beginning, TVFCU President and CEO Todd Fortner saw potential for the technology well beyond the Southside Branch, noting that it could be used to create unique commercial buildings beyond the financial industry.

Since then, Branch Technology has grown from a Chattanooga startup into a nationally recognized construction technology company. Today, its work includes projects with NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, national laboratories and major developers across the country.

When it came time to build TVFCU’s Dalton Branch, choosing Branch Technology again was an easy decision. The partnership that began with the Southside Branch had grown into something more than a single project. As TVFCU celebrates the Dalton Branch’s first anniversary, the location reflects TVFCU’s continued confidence in a local company whose work continues to make an impact.
