Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union’s 30th Annual Golf Classic Supporting Education raised more than $73,000 on Sept. 29 at Council Fire Golf Club, building on the tournament’s
growing fundraising success and decades of support for local education.
The tournament drew 168 golfers with morning and afternoon tee times. The day featured a putting contest, a hole-in-one car challenge and prize drawings. One participant was selected for a chance to win a $1 million hole-in-one prize.
Proceeds will support education-focused organizations and initiatives across the Tennessee Valley, including local Junior Achievement chapters and STARS (Students Taking a Right Stand). These programs focus on financial literacy, career readiness, entrepreneurship and positive school environments.
The inaugural tournament raised approximately $3,000 in 1997. With this year’s contributions, the Golf Classic has raised more than $1.1 million for education over the past 30 years.
“Thirty years ago, while I was teaching financial education in local schools, TVFCU began partnering with STARS to provide more financial education for students,” said Tammy Zumbrun, TVFCU’s director of marketing and community engagement. “That partnership led to the first golf tournament, which raised about $3,000. Since then, the tournament has grown to support several education initiatives serving students across our region, and we are excited to continue that work for years to come.”
