Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union (TVFCU) has promoted Abu Swafford to director of networking and telephony, effective July 1, 2026. Swafford previously served as network operations manager.
In this role, Swafford will provide strategic leadership for the credit union’s technology infrastructure, overseeing networking, telecommunications, servers, help desk operations and cybersecurity.
Along with his promotion, Swafford has been selected for Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative’s inaugural quantum pre-apprenticeship program, joining 17 other technology leaders from across the region in the first program of its kind.
“As TVFCU grows and serves more than 180,000 members, maintaining a secure, high-performing technology infrastructure is critical to delivering the seamless digital and in-branch experiences members expect,” said Glen Chrzas, chief technology officer at TVFCU. “Abu is exceptionally suited for this role, evidenced by his selection for Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative’s inaugural cohort.”
Swafford has more than 25 years of experience in IT and network operations. A U.S. Navy veteran, Swafford began his career in technology while serving in the military. After returning home, he spent 20 years at Cleveland Utilities, where he served in progressively senior roles.
Since joining TVFCU in 2019, Swafford has supported enterprise infrastructure across multiple locations, overseeing network operations, coordinating technology initiatives and leading cross-functional IT teams. His leadership has been instrumental in driving infrastructure modernization efforts, strengthening cybersecurity practices and improving operational reliability.
“I’m honored to step into this new role and grateful for the trust TVFCU has placed in me,” Swafford said. “I’m excited to help lead our infrastructure in ways that strengthen security, improve reliability and support the exceptional service our members expect. Being selected for the Chattanooga Quantum Collaborative’s pre-apprenticeship program is an incredible opportunity to continue learning alongside other industry leaders, and I look forward to bringing those insights back to TVFCU as we prepare for the future.”
Beyond his professional career, Swafford is deeply invested in his community. He co-owns Ocoee Cigar Lounge in downtown Cleveland, serves on the executive board of MainStreet Cleveland, and is a past president of 100 Black Men of Bradley County.
