TVFCU Sponsors Chattanooga Zoo Camp Participants
June 9, 2022
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (June 9, 2022) — Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union (TVFCU) recently donated $3,000 toward Chattanooga Zoo Camp scholarships for 13 children who were previously unable to attend due to financial reasons. The sponsorship also covers aftercare services.
“Zoo Camp is full of fun activities, games, crafts and direct experiences with many of our animals,” said Donna Deweese, director of development at the Chattanooga Zoo. “However, our camps also serve to teach children about our industry, expose them to new opportunities and foster love and appreciation for animals and the natural world. We’re thankful that TVFCU is helping us expand our reach and impact in the community.”
With the help of Interim City Councilwoman Marvene Noel and the Hamilton County Department of Education, TVFCU extended scholarships to 13 students ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade.
In each week-long session, students will learn about zoo operations, zookeeper responsibilities and caring for animals while also being guided through a variety of scientific discoveries pertaining to zoo animals and the environment. Campers will also enjoy a field trip to the Warner Park Pool and, depending on age and week of attendance, a trip to the Creative Discovery Museum, Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center, Hunter Museum of American Art or another community landmark.
While the first Zoo Camp session started on June 6, there are still a few spots available before the program ends on July 29. Email Mariel Cuellar, youth programs coordinator, at [email protected] to inquire about openings, join the waitlist or ask any questions.
